Summer Burlap Wreath

Summer Burlap Wreath

Well, G made it through surgery #2 on his rotator cuff today.  Yay!!!  This is the second surgery he has had in 10 days.  The first one on his achilles tendon has done well.  He has surprised me at how well he is getting around with his boot.  Heck, we even pinned cattle the other night and he helped.  We’ve been trying to get some stuff done around here before he became extremely limited.  This is going to be an experience because his right arm is in a sling and his right foot is in a boot.

We are so ready for summer, fun out by the pool, trying some new summer drinks, and soaking up some sun.  I’ve been working on cleaning it up, but the water is still a bit to chilly.  To throw a little summer cheer your way I want to share a burlap spring wreath and little vignette I put together.  I wanted to bring in a little summer color to brighten things up in here, especially with all this surgery recovery going on.  Here is what I ended up putting together.

SummerFlowerGreenWreathFinishedThe white picket fence is a piece I picked up at a flea market for $15 about a year ago.  The wreath I made is done like a mesh wreath, but I used this thinner burlap instead.  You can see my first mesh wreath here.  The colors I chose match the colors of the flowers in my gardening mannequin.

Here is what you need.  Everything came from Michael’s.  Well, except the pipe cleaners because I had them on hand.  The awesome thing is that they have this burlap in all sorts of amazing colors.  How cool is that!SummerFlowerGreenWreath

I started with the brown burlap and made an inner and outer circle securing it with pieces of pipe cleaners.SummerFlowerGreenWreathBurlapThen I took the green burlap and went diagonally back and forth from the outer to inner burlap circles securing it with pieces of pipe cleaners also.  This is how I filled in most of the gaps between the burlap.SummerFlowerGreenWreathGrnBurlapThe last thing I added was this bright colorful floral ribbon securing it with pipe cleaners as well.  I went diagonally with it and it filled in the remaining gaps. SummerFlowerGreenWreathFlwrRibNow the final step was to add the flowers around it. If I had any gaps I just adjusted the burlap around and then glued the flowers where I wanted it.  I love how it turned out, and I really love the bright colors.  It’s so cheery and just makes me smile when I walk by and look at it.

  1. I’ve always walked past those thin strips of burlap in the craft store, but I may have to pick some up now. Would love if you shared on Merry Monday Linky Party.

  2. Hi, gosh wishing good recovery for G, that is no small feat to have these 2 surgeries. I also did not know about the rolls of burlap you used for this wreath. Looks so easy to do. I love picket fences and you have a great idea to pick up a spare one here and there for crafts.
