Fireflies and Butterflies Mantle

Fireflies and Butterflies Mantle

Well, I’m still adding pops of summer around here.  How about you?  I am so ready for summer pool and beach fun.  Summer is my absolute favorite time of year.  I love the sunshine and HOT temps.  I live in TX so it definitely gets hot!  I am ready to be outside watching the butterflies flutter back and forth, and the fireflies fly around in the evening.  My absolutely most favorite thing in the summer is watching fireflies light up the night sky.  I LOVE THEM!  I can just sit and watch them all evening.  So these little summer bugs became my inspiration for our summer mantle.  Here is what our mantle looks like for the summer.I just love the yellow with the pop of pink and a touch of purple.  The garland is $1 bin pom-poms from Target that I just ran a thread through.  The butterflies are pink paper punched with a Martha Stewart punch.FireflyMantleHere is a close up of the top shelf.  I used my old window frame I used in our Christmas mantle, because it is so versatile.  This is my first boxwood wreath I’ve ever had.  Why I waited this long is beyond me because I’ve always loved these things.  The flowers are bunches I cut apart from the Dollar Tree and then placed in these fantastic Ball green anniversary jars.  Mason jars are just another love of mine!FireflyMantleTopShelfThe bottom shelf has my main inspiration for this whole mantle, the firefly jars I bought!  They are so cute.  I added more Dollar Tree flowers in the small rain boot planter, and this great flea market bird cage find.  I ordered the firefly jars, then I came across this birdcage and the ideas for this started flowing!  You just have to have a little inspiration.  Inside the birdcage is a mossy M that I made from a wood letter and sheet moss I bought from Hobby Lobby.  Then to bring in some more pink I just added more of those Martha Stewart punched butterflies.FirelfyMantleBottomShelfNow what I’ve been wanting to show you, the awesome reason as to why I fell in love with these firefly jars.  Here they are lit up. FireflyMantleNightThey just flicker and light up this little space.  It’s like having a permanent jar of fireflies all summer long, which just makes me happy.  What makes you happy in the summertime?

    • My kids are 19 & 15 and they love them. We just love fireflies and sit outside as a family and just watch them. Thanks for stopping by.

    • Thank you! I just kept pulling in Dollar Tree flowers until I found a combo I liked with the yellow. I’m really loving how bright and cheery it is.

  1. What a cute mantel. I love the pompom garland. Plus, fireflies make me feel like a kid again! Thank you for linking at Merry Monday Linky we hope to see you next week, Julia (co-host)

    • I think that’s why I like the fireflies, because they take me back and you can fun and act like a kid again. Thanks for stopping by!

    • I’m really digging these colors, the yellow, pink, green and hint of purple. Something about the yellow and pink really make it pop out. Glad you came over to visit.

    • Me too! In fact tonight we drove down our country road with the lights off just watching them. Thanks for clicking over!

  2. Just beautiful! Love the boxwood wreath–haven’t gotten one of my own, I guess because I’m waiting for a cheap, cheap one to come my way. The sweet little framed butterflies are wonderful, along with your mossy M. I just bought some moss “ribbon” that I’m dying to try out on something…

    • That was my same thought. Then one day I was at Target and they had them marked down over 50% off. So I grabbed two of them. Glad you came over.

    • I have loved boxwoods for a while, but it wasn’t until I saw them on sale that I snagged some. Thanks for checking it out.

    • We also call them lightin’ bugs here in TX. I went with fireflies because it had a nice ring with butterflies. Thanks so much for coming over.

  3. I love your wonderful whimsical summer mantle. Adore the firefly jars that bring back memories for me. Like a commenter above, we called them lightening bugs too. Love the little yellow bird cage and pink butterflies.

    • Thank you for such a sweet comment. I actually call them lightening bugs also, but I picked fireflies because it sounded better with butterflies!

    • Thank you! I absolutely love lighting bugs so the minute I saw them I knew I had to have them. Thanks so much for stopping by.
